Choosing Hard Things

“Mountain tops inspire leaders, but valleys mature them.” Winston Churchill

This week’s long run interval done

Hard things shape and change us in ways that comfort and pleasure never can, so why are we hesitant to actually choose the hard things that we know can be good for us?

Once upon a time I used to hate running, let alone running uphill. Two days ago, I made the choice to run up a canyon I have always run down.

Even in the shade, the canyon still inspires

In the overall scheme of life, it’s just another run; but today’s choice and sustained effort filled me with gratitude and joy that no other run in the last 10 years has. Today I remembered that hard things eventually become blessings when we choose to embrace them.

8-miles up and halfway done.
So much snow in the mountains this year

What ever your current “hard thing” is, may you have the courage to go do it. I promise in the end, you’ll be glad you did. ✌️💗

“For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee…” Isaiah 41:13

All done- runs are even better with friends
